As he had become "a new creature," he refused to continue the old life of sin. This angered his comrade, Andrew Peterson, son of the mill owner. One day when John had gone out, Andrew found John's Bible and decided to destroy it, as it seemed to be the cause of the change in his friend. Before throwing it into the stream that turned the mill wheel, he opened the Book at random, and his eyes fell upon the words of Matthew 24:41: "Two. . . shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left." The look had been brief, but the words had flashed into his heart like lightning, and he found himself reading them again and again. Instead of throwing the Book away, he took it back into John's room; and, upon his return, asked his aid in finding the way of life.
