~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
One is happy as a result of one's own efforts, once one knows the necessary ingredients of happiness - simple tastes, a certain degree of courage, self-denial to a point, love of work, and above all, a clear conscience. Happiness is no vague dream, of that I now feel certain. - George Sand (1804 - 1876)
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

Beyond Pain

I began to understand that I had stumbled on a kind of miracle. These people (concentration camp survivors) had walked into the valley of death and out the other side with their courage and their sense of humour intact. They were rich human beings, with no bitterness left in them. For years they had (suffered) starvation, torture, cold, loneliness and agonizing loss … yet they seemed to be beyond hatred. To me it was bewildering. In fact, I was being shaken up and turned inside out. One could live with pain precisely by not fighting it, by not denying its existence, by taking it into oneself, seeing it for what it was, going beyond it.

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
A very long vacation has been taken by my shrink.
My file is in his briefcase, so I don't know what to think.
But if I'm schizophrenic, it's a trial I can weather.
I'm in the best of company when I'm alone together.
Oh, I admit that sometimes I find myself a bore.
Especially when I tell me jokes that I have heard before.
But ordinarily I find that I am quite a guy.
I really like to be with me, and what's more, so do I.
