~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
"Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward." - Kurt Vonnegut (1922 – 2007)
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

Chuck Colson tells about one prisoner he met who had been on death row for fifteen years. His name was John Irving.

John was allowed out of his cell for only one hour a day. The rest of the time he was studying to become a minister--preparing to serve God.

Noticing that John had nothing in his cell but a few books, Colson offered to give him a TV.

"Thanks," John said, "but no thanks. You can waste an awful lot of time with those things."

Can you imagine wasting time on death row? Colson goes on to say, "The real evils of the
entertainment industry are not the violence and profanity--offensive though they are. No, it's the banality: the sheer waste of time. When we turn the TV on, we turn our minds off; studies have shown that the analytical areas of the brain nearly shut down during extended TV viewing."

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
Venus Ramey has earned lots of fame in her 82 years.
She was Miss America 1944. After winning the pageant with her singing, dancing and comedic talents, Ramey sold war bonds and her picture was adorned on a B-17 bomber that flew missions over Germany in World War II, according to the Miss America Web site. Later she was a candidate for Cincinnati City Council and worked to save Over-the-Rhine's historic buildings. She performed on Broadway and in movies.
Now, though, she's in the news for another reason.
Ramey was on her farm in Waynesburg, about 140 miles south of Cincinnati feeding a horse when she saw her dog run to a nearby building where she stores old steel-shaping machines, lathes and other equipment.
"This stuff is over 100 years old," she said.
For some time, thieves had been breaking into the building to steal the machines to sell for scrap. She hadn't been able to catch anyone in the act until last week.
She drove over to the building and blocked the truck sitting there.
When she asked a man what he was doing, he replied "scrapping," and said he would leave.
"I said, 'Oh, no you won't." Ramey said.
She had to balance on her walking stick as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun and shot their tires so they couldn't leave.
"He was probably wetting his pants," Ramey said.
"I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it. If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now."
Ramey then tried to flag down people driving by. When one stopped, she asked them to call 911. Eventually, three people were arrested - one at the scene and two others walking on a nearby road.
Don't ask her if she was Miss America.
"I still am. You never live it down," she said before laughing. "There's only one in 1944 - and I'm it."
Now, she just wants to be left alone - especially by criminals.
"I'm trying to live a quiet, peaceful life and stay out of trouble, and all it is, is one thing after another."
~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING:

When Haley started kindergarten, she was really excited when she had finally learned all of the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.

She would recite it whenever she had the chance.

It did, however, take people awhile to convince her that she had the ending wrong.

Haley insisted on reciting, "...with liberty and justice for all, you may be seated."
