~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
"Common looking people are the best in the world: that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them." - Abraham Lincoln
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

A few years back, my Sunday School class gave Jim and me about $40 to help an unfortunate family. We went to a local charity a few days before Christmas, and they gave us a list of children we thought we were to choose from. No one had stepped forward to help this last group of kids so they dumped the whole list on us, with a "do what you can."

Jim was dumbfounded because we had so many children and so little to work with. But we decided to soldier on and do what we could with what we had.

He went up to the manager of Wal-Mart and asked if they could help us. No, that source of charity had been exhausted days ago. But on we went. We found a counter of marked down jewelry for the girls, and an odd assortment of left over things for boys that had been marked down. It included some second line athletic items, just what we needed. We cleaned up all the leftovers and spent within a dollar of what we had. Everybody would get something!

Jim was dumbfounded again. He took the gifts home, and his wife helped wrap them.

That day there was a miracle at Wal-Mart! Like us, you may be surprised at what you can do where you are with what you have!

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
When my children were little, I read the Nativity story out of our big family Bible every Christmas morning.
When my youngest was old enough to talk, she asked me what a stable was.
I thought for a moment, trying to come up with an explanation that she would understand.
Before I could reply, however, my husband said, "It's something like your sister's room, but without a stereo."
~~~~~~~ TRIVIA:

Russian scientists in the Khibinsky Mountains in the Arctic Circle have discovered a new mineral that can extract radioactive substances from any water-based solution. After coming into contact with the mineral, radioactive water becomes completely safe. It does not yet have an official name and is known only as number 27-4. For it to be effective, scientists need tonnes of it and so far they have only discovered a few grammes. But they are confident that they can chemically reproduce it on a much larger scale.

Every year ten new minerals are discovered in the Arctic Circle, and one third of all worldwide mineral discoveries are on the Kolsky Peninsula.
